Sheffield United Church is a small,
welcoming congregation based in a quaint rural community. The congregation is
made up primarily of families with elementary school-age children, and
middle-aged and senior citizens.
We worship at 10:30 am every Sunday (except during summer schedule)
Our Church Services follow a traditional United Church of Canada
pattern, which includes hymn singing, Bible readings, prayers, choir
anthem, and a sermon. Afterwards there are refreshments in the church
We have no dress code, and normally see a broad mix of casual and
slightly formal clothing.
Communion 4 times per year.
Our choir practices before the Sunday service, at 9:30 am, and welcomes
We have an active Sunday School, which takes place during the church
service. Attendance ranges from roughly 5-18, and most of the children
are in grades Kindergarten to Grade Four.
We have talent shows, beef suppers, turkey suppers, pancake suppers,
coffee parties, game days, salad luncheons, and Bible studies.
Outreach includes supporting the Wesley Urban
Ministries in Hamilton and the Flamborough Food Bank through a "Mitten
Tree" and "White Gift Sunday" around Christmas, and by filling
backpacks for needy students in the fall. We also support the Wesley Urban
Ministries' "No Charge Christmas Store", their "Sunday Dinner" program, and the "Case for Kids Walkathon".
well, we offer support to needy families in the area
and to the broader community through the United Church of Canada's
Mission and Services, through fund-raising events for the Canadian
Foodgrains Bank, through Prayer Shawls (shawls made to
comfort people in hard times), and
"Purse Sisters" (providing purses full of supplies for needy women).
